A legislative proposal to review the usage of blockchain expertise for elections in Maine has failed, public information present.
As reported final month by CoinDesk, Senator Eric Brakey introduced a proposal to create a fee to review whether or not the tech could possibly be utilized to the state’s elections course of.
According to the textual content of the proposal, the fee would have explored blockchain to see if it might “support and enhance Maine’s current paper ballot election system for the purpose of improving paper ballot security, increasing election transparency and reducing costs”. If handed, the measure would have led to the event of a report on the topic, to be delivered by early December.
Yet as proven in public records, a senate committee elected to position the measure in Maine’s legislative archives, primarily scuttling it for the foreseeable future. A legislative aide confirmed the transfer when requested for remark by CoinDesk.
Despite the failure, the idea of blockchain-based voting has been explored elsewhere.
Notably, a South Korean group authorities utilized the tech in an area funding poll that noticed roughly 9,000 votes submitted. South Korean-based blockchain startup Blocko contributed the expertise for that initiative.
